Says dynamic institutional structure in place to deal with disasters induced by natural calamities

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar stated Sunday Pakistan has a strong and dynamic institutional structure in place to deal with disasters induced by natural calamities.

In his message on the occasion of National Resilience Day, PM Kakar noted that there was a strong and dynamic institutional structure in place in the form of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities to deal with disasters.

The premier emphasised that National Resilience Day was observed on October 8 as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the people of Pakistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir who had braved a terrible and painful disaster in 2005.

Kakar said that the government was, in view of the serious risks of disasters and climate change in Pakistan, committed to enhancing disaster management capabilities, enacting necessary legislation in this regard, promoting governance based on risk management capacity, building climate-appropriate infrastructure and above all enhancing adaptation.
